I know. I know.
Halloween is not considered a holiday, but we dress up our homes, we do something special (like trick or treating) and it's a nice relief from everyday life.
So I hope you're listening to this episode on a chilly, foggy, and eerie day because today we're talking about the spooktacular Halloween dread that we all face on the keto diet and how some of my favorite keto candies and treats are to help you enjoy Halloween with one less spook.
Keto Candies To Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth
An 8th Century Old Halloween Story
Wuuuu. Happy Fall Ya'll.
Its your girl, Shaila Anne. Here to fulfill your cravings this Halloween.
But first let's start with a short story. The origin of Halloween. Because what's this month without a strange little tale about All Hallows Eve.
As most Halloween nights go, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead become blurred. Otherwordly spirits, gouls, ghosts, and demons are unleashed without restriction to cause chaos on crops and wreck havoc on innocent people.
During the 8th century, the Celtic (Kel-tic) villagers of Samhain (Sow-in)grew tired of such tricks and decided to fight back.
So, on the dark chilly night of October 31st they dressed up in costumes created from animal parts, lit a huge bonfire in the center of town, and sacrificed Fall crops and living animals.
Through the centuries All Hallows Eve changed and morphed, starting with the ruling of the Roman nation over the Celtics.
“So, on the dark chilly night of October 31st they dressed up in costumes created from animal parts, lit a huge bonfire in the center of town, and sacrificed Fall crops and living animals.”
Halloween As We Know It Began With Pranks
Immigrants brought the traditions of All Hallows Eve to America, and that's when the real trouble began.
It's now the 1920's and the ghouls and ghosts now take on the form of children.
I know what you must be thinking, "children. They aren't scary. What can children do?"
But alas, that's where you are wrong. These were not any ordinary children. These children were possessed to wreak havoc, destroy neighbors, and play, sometimes deadly pranks, on the townspeople.
As it fits, around the time of the Great Depression, adults found a way to appease these monstrous acts. And the Halloween as we know it was born.
Organized activities like trick-or-treating, haunted houses, and costume parties were thrown together in hopes of a night of fun solace. Luckily for them it worked.
Now all around America this new Halloween tradition has spread. Instead of cold dark nights of witchcraft it has transformed into a night of fun and games.
But beware, for that is just the beginning of this creepy tale. For the next day is All Souls Day and the promise of prayer for the dead leads to soul cakes.
And that's a frightening end to that historic tale.
So, now tell me, what do you think of my story-telling skills?
Written and produced by mu-ah. My All Hallows Eve treat to you.
Now for the fun part you've been waiting for.
